SR183 Union Ave. Corridor Sidewalk and Street Lighting Project

The City of Alliance in partnership with the Ohio Department of Transportation proposes to construct the SR183 Union Ave. Corridor Sidewalk and Street Lighting project.  This roadway rehabilitation project will replace deteriorated curbs, sidewalks, and driveways, as needed, from College St. to E. Columbia St.  The work will include new ADA compliant wheelchair ramps at the intersections.  We will replace the overhead street light with more than 75 decorative street light poles between College St. and Broadway St. to complete the SR183 Union Ave. streetscape lighting initiative.

Limits: SR183 Union Ave. from College St. to E. Columbia St.  The project length is approximately 1.1 miles.

The project is currently in the detailed design phase.  The estimated cost of the work is $1,500,000.  The City has received and $871,000 grant from Stark County Area Transportation Study and a $295,000 grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission for the project.  Construction is proposed for the fall of 2019.  Those wishing to comment or ask questions may do so by contacting the Alliance Engineering Department, 504 E. In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended (codified as 36 CFR 800), ODOT also requests information regarding the presence of any known cultural resources in the vicinity of the project.  Cultural resources include prehistoric and historic archaeological sites, historic bridges, historic buildings, sites, and districts. 

The proposed project will not result in any substantial impacts to environmental resources.  The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by ODOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 11, 2015, and executed by FHWA and ODOT.
