Final Report Released

August 2, 2017 (Alliance, Ohio) – The City has released the Alliance Police Department Investigative Report prepared by Attorney Greg Beck. As was reported in a release on July 15, 2017, Mr. Beck was engaged to investigate two arrests made by the Alliance Police Department outside of its jurisdiction which resulted in complaints by law enforcement agencies where the arrests occurred.

The report illustrates a number of policy, procedure and training issues which will need to be addressed. Among them; collaboration with neighboring law enforcement agencies, improving communications with outside jurisdictions, and the use of body worn cameras.

Chief Griffith has already begun working on these tasks. As example, he has drafted a policy for body worn cameras to replace the City’s current practice of relying on its cruiser camera policy to fit this newer technology (see Canton Repository, July 17, 2016). The Chief will also be responsible to assess and discipline any deviations from policy found in this report or his own internal investigation.

The Police Department is faced with an extremely difficult and complicated task daily as evidenced by a Policy and Procedure Manual that exceeds nine hundred pages, and our goal is to aid in its improvement and enhancement for the safety of our citizens and our police officers.
